Here’s What’s Happening Around Northport during May 2019

Sunday May 5th – The Northport Lions Club is hosting its monthly bingo session. The Northport Lions Club is hosting its monthly bingo session May 5th, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Northport school cafeteria at 404 10th Street in Northport. Games include Early Bird, Regular, Fast Pick and Blackout with a $500 Jackpot. Canadian and U.S. currency welcome, participants must be at least 18 years of age to play, doors open at noon and play begins at 1 pm. The requirement to win the $500 dollar Blackout jackpot is to completely fill out a bingo card within the first fifty called numbers; however if the jackpot is not awarded, the called number threshold for the next session increases by one. The jackpot was not awarded during the last event so the May 5th session’s threshold is 54 numbers! Complimentary popcorn and sweets will be provided. All proceeds from bingo play and concessions sales will benefit the many community projects the Lions Club sponsors throughout the year. Bring your friends and family to support your local Lions Club!

The Northport Lions Club meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Northport Town Hall. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. Northport Senior Meals Manager – Time sensitive, note responses needed by May 15 as indicated below – Seeking new managers for weekly Senior Meals program. Do you have a senior in your life who enjoys Senior Meals?   Are you yourself a senior or a “stay at homer” looking for a satisfying volunteer opportunity? Do you have a calling to help care for the senior members of our community?  The Northport Senior Meals program provides a low cost, nutritious dinner to our seniors once each week. Typically, 20 to 30 seniors attend the meal in a welcoming social setting where the seniors can chat, tell stories, play music and games, and enjoy the company of friends. This social time is really important for our seniors. Now, the time has come for this amazing program to find new management so that it can continue to serve our senior community members. If someone or group does not step forward to take the program over, it will end this year, 2019.  NCPR (Northport Community Preservation and Restoration) has managed this program for about 10 years. NCPR is now looking for a responsible, self-motivated community-minded person or group to become new managers and continue this once weekly senior meals program. In brief, responsibilities include: menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, positive interaction with the seniors, and clean up. Additionally, the new managers will need to provide simple periodic financial reports to the 2 contributing churches and work well with the Northport Bible Church. We are willing to mentor the new managers to ease the transition. If you are interested in knowing more, contact Sandi Everson at 690-7548 by May 15th. References may be requested.
